Whooping Cough Vaccination for Pregnant Women

Who is eligible for the vaccine?

  • All Pregnant women between 20 and 38 weeks of pregnancy are eligible and should be vaccinated; (NB: the optimum time to develop antibodies is between 20-32 weeks inclusive).
  • In addition, pregnant women beyond 38 weeks, including new mothers who missed the opportunity to be vaccinated during pregnancy and who have not previously been vaccinated, should be vaccinated to provide protection from pertussis, anytime until their child receives their first vaccination (this is usually when the baby is 2 months old).
